Richard Barkin

"Taking pictures is like tiptoeing into the kitchen late at night and stealing Oreo cookies," Diane Arbus

Dentist, photographer, and traveler, who ironically and inexplicably, has an insatiable sweet tooth.

Richard was raised in Massapequa, New York, graduated from George Washington University and Georgetown University Dental School summa cum laude, and has lived in and been practicing dentistry in Rhode Island for over 34 years.  A self-taught photographer, Richard’s dental office is a photographic shrine of his documented travels with his wife and four children.

Richard merges his profession as a dentist with his passion for photography and travel, although he has a dedicated enthusiasm for photographing his adopted state of Hawai'i.

When he is not artistically challenging himself as a dentist, Richard likes to spend time with his family in Rhode Island and Hawai'i, snorkeling, gardening, imagining himself as a contestant on The Voice, and hiking The Pill in Lanikai, O'ahu.  Mostly, he relishes “tiptoeing into the kitchen late at night and stealing Oreo cookies,” both literally and figuratively.
